Unfortunately, this week we could not play together. This did not stop our progress. We both learned new songs that have similar components to them. Bentley learned Hell´s Bells as it is a slightly easier song for beginners but also includes new techniques. The last song we worked on was Crazy train. Bentley's part mainly consist of simple bar cords. It also does not require much movement with your fret hand or the hand on the neck of the guitar. It also does not have much of a hard rhythm for your picking or strumming hand. Hell´s bells requires plenty of movement on the neck of the guitar and incorporates new cords. These cords are power cords. They are used in most songs we like. It also uses a simple but new picking pattern which creates a better feel for where the strings are. This song has lots of the same components as the song I learned this week. I learned Am I Evil by Metallica. The songs share some of the same power cords and has some complex picking to it. The hardest part of the song is the intro solo. Other than the intro solo the song uses simple power cords and only a little bit of fast down picking. Later in the song it comes to a more difficult part that I have not completely gotten yet however I should have it soon. The two songs we are learning will make us both better for next time we play together. We also continued to practice the songs we already know especially Crazy train. We hope to play together again soon and make more videos for our readers. If anyone has any song suggestions please comment them. We prefer rock however we are open to trying new types of music.

Hunter and I learned to play a portion of ¨Crazy Train¨ by Ozzy Osborne. We started by each learning a different part of the song. I start the song off with the first part of the intro. This part is slower and uses easier cords which are good for learning basics. Hunter then adds to my part with the faster part of the intro. We picked this song because it is perfect for where we each are in playing guitar. I have a more simple part that is still new and helps build fundamentals. Hunter plays the faster more complex part. Us being able to play it together was the main reason that we chose this song. We did not realize the hardest part was actually playing it together. We have played together some in the past but it was mostly Hunter teaching me new things. This was the first time we really played a piece of a song together. Timing and rhythm was the most difficult thing about playing with someone for the first time. Even knowing the notes and when to play them it is difficult to actually make it happen. Once we got our timing down the rest was easy. One other challenging part was controlling sound. Especially in rock music the amplifiers have lots of gain and overdrive. The extra distortion makes it hard to get a clear sound when you are recording in a small space. We also have many different size amps and different volume levels. Picking the best combination was definitely a crucial part in having a good sound. Volume control was also an issue for us due to neighbors and others in the house. We had to find the perfect volume where we could have good sound while considering the others around us. Once we figured all these things out we were set to record our song. |
